Andrea Sofía R. Matos is an independent curator and arts administrator, born and raised in Puerto Rico. She’s completing her MA at NYU Steinhardt’s Visual Art Administration graduate program in New York City. Andrea Sofía graduated summa cum laude from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Art History with a minor in Photography; she also holds an Associate in Fine Art & Photography from Miami Dade College. Her curatorial practice focuses on the art and culture of the Caribbean, Latin America, and their diasporas. Andrea has worked in various art and cultural institutions like Museo Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, MECA Art Fair, Prizm Art Fair, LnS Gallery, the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, The Margulies Collection and Women Photographer’s International Archive (WOPHA), Locust Projects and The Bronx Museum of the Arts. Her experience in New York, Miami, and Puerto Rico has developed her visual literacy and nurtured her desire to make the arts accessible,

Currently Andrea Sofia is the Arts & Wellness Coordinator at Urban Health Plan where she is piloting a social prescribing program in the South Bronx and finding ways to integrate art into the primary care facility. What better way to make art accessible than to make it part of people’s general wellbeing!

Nacida y criada en Puerto Rico, Andrea Sofía, es una gestora cultural y curadora independiente. Es una estudiante de maestría entrante en el programa de Administración de Artes Visuales de NYU Steinhardt. Andrea Sofía se graduó summa cum laude de Florida International University con un bachillerato en Historia del Arte con especialización en Fotografía; también tiene un Asociado en Bellas Artes y Fotografía del Miami Dade College. Su practica curatorial se enfoca en el arte y la cultura del Caribe, América Latina, Latinx y su diaspora. Andrea ha trabajado en varias instituciones artísticas y culturales como el Museo Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, la Feria de Arte MECA, Prizm Art Fair, LnS GALLERY, el Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, The Margulies Collection, Women Photographer’s International Archive (WOPHA), Locust Projects y Bronx Museum of the Arts. Su experiencia tanto en New York, Miami y en Puerto Rico la ha educado en la interpretación visual de las imágenes y la ha creado un anhelo de hacer las artes accesible.

Actualmente, Andrea Sofia es la Coordinadora de Arte y Bienestar en Urban Health Plan, donde dirige un programa de prescripción social en el sur del Bronx, encontrando formas de integrar el arte al sector de salud. ¡Qué mejor manera de hacer accesible el arte que hacerlo parte del bienestar general de las personas!
